The Mayor of Hertford is one of sixteen Councillors elected to Hertford Town Council.
Hertford Town Council provides a diverse range of services for the residents of Hertford, Bengeo and Hertingfordbury.
The Council runs the Town and Tourist Information Centre in the town centre (in Market Place), it runs a packed programme of events in the grounds of Hertford Castle, and provides community grants to local organisations. It is also the major funder of Hertford Museum’s running costs.
In recent years, the Town Council has increased its active support of Hertford’s town centre, and it has funded the town centre CCTV network for the past decade.
The Council is responsible for six very popular allotment sites, as well as the town’s cemetery and maintaining the closed churchyards. It also maintains St Leonard’s Garden in Bengeo.
